Motivation: From Ordinary to Inspiring in the Workplace

"Motivation is the key to workplace success. Learn how to energise, inspire, and build resilience in yourself and your team with actionable tips."

What is Motivation?

Motivation is the ability to energise and inspire yourself and others to achieve goals, complete tasks, and drive success. It’s about creating a vision of what’s possible and communicating it with energy and passion. When you can motivate others, you become someone wonderful to collaborate with or be led by. After all, we love working with people who help us become the best versions of ourselves.

Why Is Motivation Important in the Workplace?

Motivation increases productivity, creativity, and the quality of work achieved. A motivated team is an energised team. When people feel motivated, they are more positive, show greater initiative, and support each other.

Motivation also fosters resilience and adaptability, crucial traits in today’s ever-changing work environments. Motivated individuals are far more likely to persist through tough times, driving themselves and their teams toward ultimate success.

A Real-Life Example: Motivating Through Crisis

I’ll never forget the day the UK went into lockdown in 2020. Businesses were paralysed, deals were lost, and uncertainty loomed large. Like many others, 4D was faced with roadblocks. Yet, I knew what we needed to do.

By dialling up my energy and creativity, I set a clear vision: not just surviving the pandemic but thriving through it. I communicated to the team with passion, igniting a sense of possibility. We had the tools to make it work:

  • A practical wellbeing programme
  • Training to build confidence during uncertainty
  • Online workshops and webinars that could reach global audiences

What followed was a motivated mindset of “We can do this!” Armed with an iPhone, I headed to the woods near my house to record resilience videos for social media, inspiring others who were in the same boat. By setting this tone of motivation, we turned challenges into opportunities and helped countless others do the same.

The Ripple Effect of Motivation

Motivation doesn’t just solve problems—it inspires a growth mindset. Working with motivated people teaches us to look for what’s possible, even when things go wrong. And by modelling a motivated attitude, you show others how to overcome difficulties in their own lives, creating a lasting impact.

Even better? Motivation is reciprocal. By motivating others, you’ll often find that they energise and inspire you in return, especially when you face challenges.

How to Be More Motivating Today

Motivating others can be as simple as using energising phrases like “You can do it!” or “We’ve got this!” Say it with an energy level of 8 or higher, and watch how your positivity spreads. Whether it’s a colleague, a project, or a personal goal, your energy has the power to inspire action.
